D Day 60th Anniversary
In June 2004 I travelled with a bus load of D Day veterans to visit Normandy for the D Day 60th Anniversary. It was a very special trip, a mixture of respect for the veterans and overall a very thought provoking trip.

Secret Bunker. An innocent looking farmhouse conceals the entrance to Scotland’s best kept secret. Scotland’s Secret Underground Nuclear Command Centre, near St Andrews. From it’s top secret Command Centre to dormitories, broadcasting studio and CND Room and learn how the elite survived the Cold War. 100ft underground is RAF Troywood, an “R3” style ROTOR bunker built by the RAF in 1953 in response to the threat of Nuclear War with the USSR.
Wartime Orkney Part 1. Churchill Barriers, the Italian Chapel, relics from the German High Seas Fleet and HMS Tern. Orkney’s wartime history is characterised by tales of bravery, camaraderie, tragedy and indomitable human spirit. The islands played a pivotal role in both World Wars and poignant reminders of these turbulent periods are etched across our landscape in the shape of the gun emplacements, searchlight stations and concrete bunkers that can still be seen today.
Cobbaton Combat Collection is an amazing military museum and tourist attraction. This North Devon collection has tanks, trucks, armoured cars, guns, helmets, artillery and grenades. From bombs to Home Front ration books, gas masks, ARP and Home Guard and blackout lamps, mostly World War Two and the years 1939 – 1945. Exhibits cover from the Boer War, WW1, the Falklands,right up to the First Gulf War, with kit from the British Army – plus Canadian, American and Russian Forces.
